No High Fructose Corn Syrup
At Dere Street we are dedicated to manufacturing our baked goods with the finest natural ingredients including pure sugar. Sugar is not always necessary as a sweetener but is a less expensive natural alternative to other natural sweeteners such as honey, apple sauce, and agave for example. So in order to provide our customers with an affordable sweet treat we use only pure sugar and we keep that sweetness to a minimum using only enough to satisfy your craving for something sweet without making you cringe every time you bite into that scone, cake or pastry.
“You will never see the ingredient “High Fructose Corn Syrup” on any of our labels.”
High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is widely used, relatively cheaper to produce, and backed by a whole army of corn refiners. It seems to have already ousted simple table sugar from the top, eating up major percentages of the sweetener market. But there is a message of distress hidden somewhere, and the dangers are as pronounced as the convincing sweetness HFCS brings. These dangers are real and documented and we suggest you read up on them and form your own opinion.
While we recognize that just like the detractors there is an army of supporters for HFCS it is wise to note that the corn industry plays a major role in the marketing and promotion of HFCS.
